The Thelemic League

Welcome to my second attempt at formulating a structure within which Thelemites can work on defining what Thelema means when mapped onto the social/political structure in which we spend our short lives. The first attempt, known to the mundane as Thelemic New Conservatism never took off as I expected it would. Unfortunately, it seems that the only Thelemites who were interested in anything even remotely political were too busy playing political games with each other to really work on building anything worthwhile.
Besides which, I had a hard time trying to put my vision of "New Conservatism" into words which would not be misunderstood by the general public. Add to that the recent disturbing developments masquerading under the banner of "Neo Conservatism"... is just seemed like a good time to make a new start.
So what is a Secular Ecclectic Thelemite?
A Secular Ecclectic Thelemite:
- Is able to separate Thelema (the philosophy of universal freedom) from Crowley-anity (the religion of Aleister Crowley),
- Believes that any religious or philosophical movement can accept the Law of Thelema as their central tenet,
- Is bored/tired/disgusted with political one-upsmanship and infighting which, more often than not, symbolizes the current state of organized Thelemic Orders,
- Believes that no single organization holds a monopoly on the philosophy known as Thelema,
- Believes that while structure is important to the development of one's own inner self, one must ultimately shed the restrictions of organized heirarchical structure in order to forge their own path to individual enlightenment,
- Believes that all Thelemites have the duty to do whatever they can to protect freedom and liberty for the sake of those who come after us.
Anyone who agrees with the basic tenets listed above is welcome to contact the Peculiar of the Order to submit an application as a Founding Member. Membership in COSET is ultimately invitational so be sure to include some info about yourself and why you think you would make a good Secular Ecclectic Thelemite. Be assured that, of those called, nearly all are chosen.
Founding members receive the following benefits:
- An alias at thelema.org (optional, upon request),
- Subscription to the COSET discussion list, once it's up,
- Permanent listing on the web page as a Founding Member,
- Pride in knowing that you are doing what you can to make the Law of Thelema a universally accepted principle for daily social interaction.
In exchange, you will be asked to:
- Help in formulating the political and social platforms of COSET,
- Offer your opinion (when appropriate) on issues discussed on the various forums,
- Act as an envoy of COSET -- a respected elder, if you will -- in your local geographical area,
- For those who are gifted writers and/or thinkers, an article or two on some aspect of Thelemic theory and practice for publication on the web site.
